On July 16th Bolivia, to be more precise La Paz citizens celebrate a revolution that took place after a lot of hidden and clandestine meetings between important activists that were tired of the Spaniard domination.

On July 16th once the sunset was setting in the last details were arranged and finally the revolution burst in, using the traditionas "Virgen del Carmen" celebration as a perfect hide away. The revolutionaries took over "Veterans Barracks " that were guarded by Spaniards as well as the Town Hall and the Archbishop´s Church. All this while the traditional procession was being performed. They deposed the Spanish Governor and the Spanish Bishop and gave the leadership to the patriot: Pedro Domingo Murillo.
Pure! Colombia
Colombian Declaration of Independence refers to the historic events of July 20, 1810, in Santa Fe de Bogota, which resulted in the establishment of a junta in that capital. This experience in self-government eventually led to the creation of the Republic of Colombia.

The people of New Granada (now Colombia) were unhappy with Spanish rule. Napoleon had invaded Spain in 1808 and imprisoned King Ferdinand VII. Napoleon then put his brother Joseph Bonaparte on the Spanish throne, infuriating most of Spanish America. In New Granada, Camilo Torres Tenorio had written in 1809 his famous Memorial de Agravios ("Remembrance of Offenses") about repeated Spanish slights against Creoles, who often could not hold high offices and whose trade was restricted. His sentiments were echoed by many.

Colombians are very patriotic and enjoy celebrating their Independence Day with feasts, traditional food, parades and parties.
